Charity Mixed Open Update – Conserv Earth

by | Aug 29, 2023

Albert Clack, the General Manager of Randpark Club, along with Jeanne de Power, a member of the Randpark Club General Committee, presented a cheque to Conserv Earth, representing the incredible amount of R 106 224.94 raised through our Charity Mixed Open event held on Sunday, 30 July 2023.

We are extremely grateful for the generous donations from our members and sponsors, who have contributed to such a worthy cause.

While hosting a charity event is fun and exciting, it is equally important to keep our supporters informed about how the funds raised are being utilised. We would like to provide you with an update on the progress made so far.

The image at the top of the sidebar showcases the before and after shots of the fencing project (click to enlarge). This initiative plays a crucial role in protecting hundreds of Pangolins in the wild and takes Conserv Earth one step closer to preserving this species. Additionally, it aids in the fight against poaching, which involves the use of expensive trackers and tracers. Sabi is proud to be one of the first reserves to adopt this practice, and the funds raised by Randpark will be allocated to installing 16km of Pangolin-friendly fences. Construction has already begun, with materials on-site, and they anticipate completion within the next few weeks. These fences not only benefit Pangolins but also safeguard the chameleon and tortoise species, which will be spared by this initiative. It is important to note that Pangolins, when faced with an electric fence, instinctively roll up into a ball. Unfortunately, they can become trapped and die from electrocution.
